Baseball Game Preview: Denver Christian Thunder vs. Forge Christian Fury

The Denver Christian Thunder will take on the Forge Christian Fury at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Denver Christian 3.5, Forge Christian 1.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Denver Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Platte Valley a 1-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Thunder sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Denver Christian saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Lord, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Meanwhile, Forge Christian came tearing into Saturday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Broncos 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Fury, who have now won 14 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Forge Christian let Ben McLean and Asher Garner run wild. McLean went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run, while Garner went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Garner has posted since back in April. Ivan Murphy also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Forge Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Denver Christian's record is now 20-9. As for Forge Christian, their record now sits at 24-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Denver Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Forge Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts.
