The Anderson Indians will head out to face off against the Lapel Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Anderson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Anderson took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Madison-Grant, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Indians had just enough and edged out the Argylls 4-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on KeAvon Burt, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Nehemiah Burns also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Lapel waltzed into their matchup on Monday with 13 straight wins... but they left with 14. They never let the Bearcats get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won 18 games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jakoby Nunley tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Rylie Hudson and Quade Hall did most of the damage at the plate: Hudson went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Hall went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Hall a new career-high. Darl Gustin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Lapel hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Lapel pushed their record up to 24-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Anderson, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Anderson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Lapel struggles in that department as they've averaged .514. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Anderson came up short against Lapel when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 9-6. Can the Indians avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
