Recap: Shasta Wolves vs. Chico Panthers
The Shasta Wolves lost against the Chico Panthers back in November of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Shasta had to suffer through a rough 49-21 loss at the hands of Chico. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shasta in their matchups with Chico: they've now lost six in a row.
Shasta's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Justin Polley, who threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Owen Boesiger also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
It was another big night for Dion Coleman, who rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 65 receiving yards. Coleman is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Azari Cruz, who threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes.
Shasta's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Chico, their win was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-1.
Shasta will take on Red Bluff at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chico, they will head out on the road to face off against Enterprise at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Enterprise will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Chico is ranked 127th).
