Baseball Recap: Zeeland West Comes Up Short

Zeeland West had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it five. They lost 10-4 to the Byron Center Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Dux have lost by exactly six runs.

As for Byron Center, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Byron Center's part, John Ryan looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Luke Laska was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. Cole Krauss also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Zeeland West will head out on the road to square off against Zeeland East at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dux's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chix have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Byron Center, they will square off against Muskegon at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
