Basketball Game Preview: Boyd Yellowjackets vs. Ponder Lions

Boyd is 0-8 against Ponder since January of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Boyd Yellowjackets will take on the Ponder Lions at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Boyd didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Callisburg, but they still walked away with a 58-52 win.

It was another big night for Myles Richardson, who posted 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lex Horton, who earned 12 points.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Ponder on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Pilot Point out of the water with a 72-27 final score. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Ponder is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points per game. As for Boyd, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-19.

Boyd took a serious blow against Ponder in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 83-41. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Boyd was down 42-21.
