Football Recap: Gillespie Comes Up Short

Gillespie lost against Staunton/Bunker Hill back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Miners took a 27-8 bruising from the Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Miners have lost by exactly 19 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Staunton/Bunker Hill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jesse Baker, who rushed for 140 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Those 140 rushing yards gave Baker a new career-high. Another pass catcher making a difference was Jake Spencer, who picked up 94 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Gillespie's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Staunton/Bunker Hill, they moved to 4-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Gillespie is set to square off against their familiar foe North Mac at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Staunton/Bunker Hill will take on rival Greenville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
