Basketball Recap: Ida Baker Takes a Loss

Ida Baker was the 72-39 winner over North Fort Myers when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Ida Baker Bulldogs were dealt a 61-25 loss at the hands of the North Fort Myers Red Knights on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 411th, while the Red Knights are ranked 146th).

Ida Baker lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emilee Plummer, who posted seven points. Plummer is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maia Berdebes, who had 11 points and three steals.

Bianca Iten was her usual excellent self, shooting 5-for-9 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 28 points and 12 rebounds for North Fort Myers. That makes it four consecutive games in which Iten has scored at least a third of North Fort Myers' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Erickson, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Ida Baker and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for North Fort Myers, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Ida Baker didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-38 victory against Island Coast on the 12th. As for North Fort Myers, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-25 defeat against Babcock on the 12th.
