Basketball Recap: Zaire 'Cherri' Hatter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Desert Vista over O'connor

Desert Vista was the 74-48 winner over O'Connor when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Desert Vista Thunder fell to the O'Connor Eagles 53-47. The Thunder just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Desert Vista lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zaire 'Cherri' Hatter, who posted 18 points along with eight boards and four steals. Trinity Jones was another key player, going 7 for 11 on her way to 18 points.

Leading O'Connor to victory were Audrey Bhesania and Savannah Helms. Bhesania almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Helms went 7 of 13 to rack up 17 points and eight boards. Helms has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Risi Lancaster, who had three points and six rebounds.

Desert Vista now has a losing record at 11-12. As for O'Connor, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Desert Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 81-10 victory against Corona del Sol on the 11th. As for O'Connor, they will venture away from home to face off against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. O'Connor is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season.
