Softball Recap: Howland Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hudson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Howland). Everything went their way against the Hudson Explorers on Saturday as they made off with a 16-3 win. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Maya Kubancsek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mary Moy, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Schmitz, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Howland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Howland pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hudson, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Howland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 13-0 victory against Streetsboro on the 12th. As for Hudson, they will face off against Stow-Munroe Falls at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Explorers are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
