Basketball Recap: Crest Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Crest can now relate to. They had to suffer through a 72-26 loss at the hands of the North Lincoln Knights. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd in North Carolina, while the Knights are ranked 47th in North Carolina).

North Lincoln's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ally Smith led the charge by going 8-for-16 en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The matchup was Smith's third in a row with at least 19 points. Ashlyn Black was another key player, going 8-for-12 on her way to 21 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Crest has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. The win was the 26th in a row for North Lincoln, bringing their record for this year to 26-1.

Crest does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North Lincoln, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Erwin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Lincoln knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 26 games -- so hopefully Erwin likes a good challenge.
