Basketball Recap: Safford Comes Up Short

Safford was the 75-67 winner over Empire when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Safford Bulldogs might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Empire Ravens an easy 71-45 win. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Empire to victory, but perhaps none more so than Khari Gurley, who posted 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gurley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Donovan Davidson, who had eight points.

Safford's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Empire, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Safford will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on St. David at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Empire will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Cholla at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Cholla will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Empire surely won't give up without a fight.
