Basketball Recap: Asheville Christian Academy Drops Season-High Score on Carolina Day

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Asheville Christian Academy). Everything went their way against the Carolina Day Wildcats on Tuesday as the Asheville Christian Academy Lions made off with a 71-47 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 64-37 back in November of 2024.

Asheville Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Larios, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 30 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. That's the most points Larios has posted since back in December of 2023. Gabby Puckett also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Carolina Day lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Layla Hunter, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The contest was Hunter's third in a row with at least ten points. Amy Rhymer was another key player, putting up 14 points and six assists.

The win made it two in a row for Asheville Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-8. As for Carolina Day, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-3.

Asheville Christian Academy has already played their next match (against SouthLake Christian Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Carolina Day will welcome Rabun Gap-Nacoochee at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carolina Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.
