Basketball Game Preview: Avalon Eagles vs. Covington Owls

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Avalon Eagles face off against the Covington Owls at 6:15 p.m. on Friday... Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Covington will be up against a hot Avalon squad: the team just extended their winning streak to ten. Avalon simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Morgan 63-20. That looming 63-20 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Avalon yet this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Covington). They claimed a resounding 69-18 win over Morgan. With the Owls ahead 35-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Covington is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.9 points per game. As for Avalon, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Avalon beat Covington 45-37 when the teams last played on January 7th. Will Avalon repeat their success, or does Covington have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
