Baseball Game Preview: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors vs. Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies

The St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Verbum Dei Jesuit by a score of 6-2. That looming 6-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

Joshua Rios made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise. Rios was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Christian Maldonado was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Meanwhile, Godinez Fundamental hadn't done well against Santa Ana recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Godinez Fundamental won by a run and slipped past Santa Ana 4-3.

The team relied heavily on Nickolas Ticas, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Godinez Fundamental, their record now sits at 4-8.
