Basketball Recap: Cambridge Falls Despite Big Games from Mallory Springer and Elisabeth Kubik

Cambridge was the 50-42 winner over Bertrand when they last played one another last Thursday, but their luck changed this time around. The Cambridge Trojans took a 49-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bertrand Vikings on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Cambridge had strong showings from Elisabeth Kubik, who posted seven points and six steals, and Mallory Springer, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Kubik a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Aspen Webb, who scored four points and five boards.

Bertrand's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addison Andersen led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine steals. Andersen is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Shelby Schoene, who had 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Cambridge's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Bertrand, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12.

Cambridge will square off against Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bertrand, they will challenge Medicine Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
