Softball Recap: Highland Takes a Loss

Highland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sunnyside Blue Devils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 10-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Alena Mascarenas and MiaLani Ocampo did some serious damage despite the final result: Mascarenas scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Ocampo scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Lillian Thruston was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Sunnyside, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Highland wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 8-3 defeat against Campo Verde on the 7th. As for Sunnyside, they have also already played their next match, a 5-2 win against South Hills on the 8th.
