Softball Preview: Therrell Panthers vs. South Atlanta Hornets
The Therrell Panthers will face off against the South Atlanta Hornets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Therrell will be strutting in after a win while South Atlanta will be coming in after a loss.
While Therrell didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-16-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They skirted past Forest Park 12-10. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Therrell.
Madison Hamilton and Kirsten Woods did most of the damage at the plate: Hamilton scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in four of her six plate appearances, while Woods scored two runs and stole five bases while going 1-for-2. Janethia Kendall was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of her eight plate appearances.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Therrell didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 11 strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, South Atlanta unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to Miller Grove. The Hornets were red-hot at the plate headed into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the eight contests prior) but the Wolverines' pitchers proved too tough.
Therrell's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for South Atlanta, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2.
Therrell might still be hurting after the 36-23 loss they got from South Atlanta when the teams last played back in August of 2023. Can Therrell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
