Recap: Wake Forest Cougars vs. Corinth Holders Pirates

The Wake Forest Cougars had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 42.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 52-40 victory over Corinth Holders. Given Wake Forest's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while Corinth Holders is ranked 223rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Audra Hillman continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor McCartney, who scored ten points along with four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Corinth Holders lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kamea Davis. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Davis scored a full 42.5% of Corinth Holders' points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Darla Lee was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.

Wake Forest's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Corinth Holders, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wake Forest will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Sanderson is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Corinth Holders will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cleveland at 6:15 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
