Basketball Recap: Samson Comes Up Short

Samson lost against Cottonwood back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Samson Tigers were beaten by the Cottonwood Bears 80-44. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 417th, while the Bears are ranked 167th).

When it comes to explaining why Samson lost, don't look at Hunter Lamb. Despite the final result, he posted seven points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Brodi Mock, who earned 11 points.

Even though they lost, Samson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Samson has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Cottonwood, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Samson won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Houston County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Samson is facing Houston County at the right time seeing as Houston County is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Cottonwood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Geneva County at 7:00 p.m.
