Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Spartans vs. Rootstown Rovers

The Springfield Spartans will square off against the Rootstown Rovers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield is looking for their season's first win.

Springfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 13-3 to Firestone on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly ten runs.

Ty Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Gabe Jurmanovich, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

While Rootstown didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Mogadore 12-2 on Wednesday. Considering the Rovers have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rootstown pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
