Softball Game Preview: Geneva Knights vs. Winter Park Wildcats

The Geneva Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Winter Park Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Geneva is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.3 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Geneva made easy work of Master's Academy and carried off a 17-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.

Bella Ortiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ortiz was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Ingram, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Emma Bastian also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Geneva always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .731. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Winter Park was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Boone, falling 15-5.

Winter Park saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bridget Story, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Sarah McDavid was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Geneva pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Winter Park, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.

Geneva might still be hurting after the 16-10 defeat they got from Winter Park in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
