Softball Recap: Zeigler-Royalton Find Success

Zeigler-Royalton's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Mt. Vernon Rams by a score of 7-4. The Tornadoes haven't had any issues with the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Mayti House was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That run marked the first that she scored this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Furlow-Hampton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Kahli Sanders was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Zeigler-Royalton picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Zeigler-Royalton will square off against Carbondale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Zeigler-Royalton is facing Carbondale at the right time seeing as Carbondale is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Mt. Vernon, they will challenge Herrin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mt. Vernon's pitchers better be ready for this one: Herrin has averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
