Basketball Recap: Cameron Lyons' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Atholton over Howard

Atholton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-67 heartbreaker at the hands of the Howard Lions. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (55), the Raiders still had to take the loss.

Atholton's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Lyons, who on his way to 19 points. Lyons continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Demarcus Lamot, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Griffin Garner was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds for Howard. What's more, Garner also posted a 56% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Alex Reeb was another key player, putting up ten points and five assists.

Atholton's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Howard, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Atholton has already played their next matchup, a 76-28 win against Reservoir on the 24th. Howard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
