Softball Recap: Blaine Gets the Win

Blaine's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Squalicum Storm by a score of 15-10. With that win, the Borderites brought their scoring average up to 7.6 runs per game.

Mesa Puls made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She also put up four hits, which were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brie Smith, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season. Nevaeh Zaddack was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Blaine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Squalicum only posted an OBP of .368.

Blaine now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Squalicum, their defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Blaine and Squalicum will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Borderites see the field they'll take on Lynden Christian at 4:30 p.m. on the 15th. As for Squalicum, their break will end when they face Burlington-Edison at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th.
