Basketball Recap: Sahuaro's Winning Streak Snapped at 12 Games

It was a good run, but Sahuaro unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 53-44 to the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts. The game was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but the Cougars couldn't quite close it out.

Sahuaro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maggie Boyd, who posted four points in addition to eight boards and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Boyd a new career-high in blocks. Carly Coolidge was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

It was another big night for Isabella Webb, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards for Mica Mountain. Webb has been hot recently, having also posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amaris Biancuzzo, who went 5 for 10 en route to 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sahuaro's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-6. As for Mica Mountain, they pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Sahuaro won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ironwood Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jaidyn Saucedo and Coolidge. As for Mica Mountain, they will also get right back to it: they'll take on Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mica Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.2 points per game this season.
