Basketball Recap: Victor Oaxaca Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hagerman

After losing to Hagerman the last time they met, Gateway Christian decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Gateway Christian Warriors managed a 60-55 win over the Hagerman Bobcats on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Warriors.

Gateway Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Victor Oaxaca out in front who went 5-for-9 to rack up 12 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The dominant performance gave Oaxaca a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Ethaniel Wigley, who posted 15 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Gateway Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Hagerman's loss came despite strong showings from Jevon Aguilar and Jordan Aguilar. Jevon scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Jordan put up 15 points. Jevon is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Ricardo Mctague was another key player, putting up nine points.

Gateway Christian's record is now 16-6. As for Hagerman, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.

Gateway Christian has already played their next game, a 68-27 win against Floyd on the 11th. As for Hagerman, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 68-37 victory against Tatum on the 11th.
