Baseball Recap: Berea Comes Up Short

Berea had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-18 to make it five. They fell just short of the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets by a score of 12-11. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Saturday (ten), the Pirates still had to take the loss.

Nathan Prophitt was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. He has become a key player for Berea: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-17 otherwise. Jackson Schill also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Williamsburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

On Williamsburg's side, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Sizemore, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Those five hits gave Sizemore a new career-high. Kelly Wells was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Coming up, Berea will challenge Bourbon County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Williamsburg, they will take on Harlan County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
