Baseball Recap: Chicago University Comes Up Short

Chicago University dropped their record down to 5-8 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack, falling 10-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Maroons of the 8-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28th (when they won 18-8).

For Saint Ignatius College Prep's part, Sebastian Cuadros was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Cuadros also tossed no walks, which is notable because Saint Ignatius College Prep is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-9 otherwise. Cuadros was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Ethan Conway looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, Ben Marasovich was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. Joseph Toney was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Chicago University and Saint Ignatius College Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Maroons (ranked 449th) will meet Kenwood (ranked 197th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Saint Ignatius College Prep will challenge Brother Rice at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (271 vs. 1).
