Basketball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Carver's Fourth in Last Five Outings

Carver won the last time they faced Shaw, and Kayden Cooper did her part to make sure it happened again. The Carver Tigers enjoyed a cozy 72-55 win over the Shaw Raiders on Saturday thanks in part to Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. Her afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Armani West was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals. She has become a key player for Carver: the team is 6-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 1-5 otherwise.

Shaw's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brooke Shipp, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 24 points and eight boards, and Quishyi Walcott, who went 8 for 10 en route to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Walcott is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 24 games she's played dating back to last season.

Carver is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Shaw, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, Carver and Shaw will both be playing Spencer the next time they take the court. Shaw will host Spencer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Carver will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
