Basketball Recap: Forsyth Home Educators Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Forsyth Home Educators can now relate to. They fell 53-41 to the Veritas Christian Academy Warriors on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while the Warriors are ranked 100th).

Despite the loss, Forsyth Home Educators saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Taylor Harkey posted 23 points. That's the most points Harkey has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsay Redmon, who scored 11 points.

Even though they lost, Forsyth Home Educators smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 18 consecutive contests.

Veritas Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brooke Miller led the charge by to rack up 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Miller has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 30 times she's played. Shea Nichols was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Forsyth Home Educators has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-13 record this season. The victory was the 15th in a row for Veritas Christian Academy, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.

Forsyth Home Educators does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Veritas Christian Academy, they have already played their next matchup, a 69-58 win against Lee Park Prep on the 22nd.
