Volleyball Recap: Seguin Matadors vs. Smithson Valley Rangers
Seguin and Smithson Valley squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Seguin had to settle for second. They came up short against the Smithson Valley Rangers, falling 3-0. The Matadors haven't had much luck with the Rangers recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-18.
Elli Anderson paced Seguin's offense, picking up ten kills. Anderson got some help from
Gisele Morales and her 20 assists. Finally,
Rebeka Wilke kept Seguin's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.
Smithson Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Berkley Bates, who had 22 digs. Bates has been hot for a while, having posted 14 or more digs the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Fuentes, who had eight digs and 20 assists.
Seguin's defeat dropped their record down to 28-21. As for Smithson Valley, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-15.
Seguin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Smithson Valley, they will square off against Flour Bluff on Monday. Flour Bluff will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something Smithson Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
