Baseball Game Preview: Scarborough Red Storm vs. Portland Bulldogs

The Scarborough Red Storm will take on the Portland Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Scarborough has 17 straight victories, Portland has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Scarborough's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Falmouth 1-0.

Falmouth's batters probably weren't too happy with Erik Swenson, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up a single walk).

On the hitting side, Scarborough's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Finn Coburn, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Cam Wellman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Portland's offense. They came up short against Gorham on Saturday, falling 9-0.

Portland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Scarborough, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Portland's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Scarborough has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Portland, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Scarborough keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?

Everything went Scarborough's way against Portland when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Scarborough made off with a 12-0 win. Do the Red Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
