Football Recap: Mountain Pointe Finds Playoff Glory Versus Flowing Wells + How To Watch

With a playoff win on the line, Mountain Pointe rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Flowing Wells Caballeros as they made off with a 47-26 victory. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Pride considering their three-point performance the contest before.

Mountain Pointe found their leader in sophomore Jamier McKinney, who rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Those 121 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for McKinney.

Mountain Pointe was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Mountain Pointe didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Korion Pace and Gabriel Cordova. Another thorn in Flowing Wells' side was Nick Gonzales, who picked up two sacks and made six total tackles.

Flowing Wells lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Quinn Van, who rushed for 65 yards and one TD on only six carries. Flowing Wells also got a significant boost from Benicio Ruiz, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 119 yards.

Mountain Pointe has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.4 points over those games. As for Flowing Wells, they dropped their record down to 7-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Coming up, Mountain Pointe will challenge Desert View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pride will need to watch out since the Jaguars have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Flowing Wells does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
