Softball Recap: Mahomet-Seymour Find Success

Mahomet-Seymour lost to Mattoon on Thursday, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Greenwave by a score of 5-3 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The game was the first time the Bulldogs have beaten the Greenwave on their field since May 6, 2023.

Kate Severns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ainsley Whitaker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Presley Cox also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Mahomet-Seymour's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Mattoon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Mahomet-Seymour will venture away from home to challenge MacArthur at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs are facing the Generals at the right time seeing as the Generals are stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Mattoon, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m.
