Baseball Recap: Nicholas County Takes a Loss

Nicholas County extended their losing streak to 14 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-17 in the process. They came up short against the Harrison County Thorobreds/Fillies, falling 12-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bluejackets of the 7-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Harrison County, the victory was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

For Harrison County's part, Dray Roberts looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Roberts posted two strikeouts, the most he's had over his last two matches.

At the plate, Brian Vaughn was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Blake Green was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Looking ahead, Nicholas County will challenge Bethlehem at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles/Banshees have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.95 runs per game on average), something the Bluejackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Harrison County, they will take on Estill County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Thorobreds/Fillies 2.6, the Engineers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
