Softball Recap: Cypress Comes Up Short

Cypress had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 13-9 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the Pacifica Mariners. The Centurions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mariners earlier this season, when they won 4-2.

Tia Hernandez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

As for Pacifica, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On Pacifica's side, Ellena Ediss tossed a big game, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Ediss has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Micheala Meza, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Centurions 3.6, the Vanguards 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Pacifica will square off against rival Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
