Basketball Game Preview: Claremont Wolfpack vs. Walnut Mustangs

The Claremont Wolfpack and the Walnut Mustangs will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Claremont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season.

Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Claremont turned things around against Mary Star of the Sea on Monday. They walked away with a 51-44 victory over the Stars.

Claremont found their leader in sophomore Jaden Cardenas, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 boards. What's more, Cardenas also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaden Wang, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, Walnut was able to grind out a solid win over Marquez on Monday, taking the game 55-47. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Gladiators are ranked 641st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Walnut is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Claremont, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Things could have been worse for Claremont, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 64-48 loss to Walnut in their previous matchup back in December of 2024.
