Recap: Newton Rams vs. Archer Tigers

After a string of three wins, the Newton Rams's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 59-47 to Archer. While losing is never fun, Newton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Archer is ranked 17th).

When it comes to explaining why Newton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sanaa Tripp. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tripp has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mya Perry, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Newton's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-8. As for Archer, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

Newton will face off against Millington Central at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Millington Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Newton likes a good challenge. As for Archer, they will head out on the road to square off against Brookwood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
