Basketball Recap: Columbia Independent Falls to New Franklin in First Game of Season

Columbia Independent had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 69-40 loss at the hands of the New Franklin Bulldogs. The matchup was a close 21-18 at the break, but unfortunately for Columbia Independent it sure didn't stay that way.

Despite the loss, Columbia Independent still got an impressive performance from Mustapha Salau, who almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Heath Turner Diaz, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Columbia Independent will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Otterville at 7:30 p.m. on December 2. As for New Franklin, they will face off against Crest Ridge at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
