With a playoff win on the line, Berkeley Prep rose to the challenge on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Lake Placid Dragons a 4-0 shutout. The Buccaneers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last five contests.

Lake Placid's batters probably weren't too happy with Avery Powers, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 16 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Powers has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Berkeley Prep's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Crerand, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Berkeley Prep's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Placid, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-13.

Coming up, Berkeley Prep will take on Bishop Verot at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Buccaneers 2.6, the Vikings 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Lake Placid does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
