Football Game Preview: George County Rebels vs. Picayune Maroon Tide + Official Tickets

George County is 0-5 against Picayune since October of 2021 but things could change on Friday. The Rebels will take on the Maroon Tide at 7:00 p.m. George County has given up an average of 28.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Friday, George County came up short against Forest Hill and fell 32-25. That's two games in a row now that the Rebels have lost by exactly seven points.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Branden Gautier, who rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 104 rushing yards. Keion Riley was another key back, rushing for 79 yards and one score.

Picayune had taken Pearl River Central down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Maroon Tide took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The matchup marked the Maroon Tide's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Even if they lost, Picayune's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Mario Monson refused to say out of the backfield, picking up a sack all by himself.

Picayune's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for George County, their record now sits at 3-7.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. George County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 180.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Picayune struggles in that department as they've been averaging 286.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

George County suffered a grim 63-40 defeat to Picayune when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
