Pueblo West falls despite strong effort from Trynity Martin

Recap: Pueblo West Cyclones vs. Pine Creek Eagles

After flying high against the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks last Friday, the Pueblo West Cyclones came back down to earth. Pueblo West fell 49-37 to Pine Creek on Friday. Pueblo West has struggled against Pine Creek recently, as their contest on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Pueblo West still got an impressive performance from Trynity Martin, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Martin hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Katie Peterson, who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Brooklyn Stewart was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds for Pine Creek. Stewart has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. Leekaya Burke-perryman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six assists and three steals.

Pueblo West has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Pine Creek, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Pueblo West will head out on the road to take on Pueblo Central at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pueblo Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Pueblo West is ranked 49th). As for Pine Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Highlands Ranch at 1:00 p.m.
