Baseball Game Preview: West Greene Pioneers vs. Jeannette Jayhawks

The West Greene Pioneers are taking a road trip to square off against the Jeannette Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Jefferson-Morgan hit West Greene with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pioneers fell 7-3 to the Rockets. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West Greene saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Shipman, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Jeannette had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Carmichaels on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jayhawks have posted since March 22, 2024.

Wyatt Schaeffer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Jeannette is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-6 otherwise. Schaeffer was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Rattigan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Jeannette's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-7. As for West Greene, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

West Greene couldn't quite get it done against Jeannette in their previous matchup back in April of 2018 as they fell 11-6. Can the Pioneers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
