Football Recap: Roberto Gallegos' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hidalgo Early College over Lopez

Hidalgo Early College extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They took a 38-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lopez Lobos. On the bright side, the 28- point effort marked the Pirates' highest-scoring contest to date.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Roberto Gallegos, who rushed for 70 yards and one score.

As for Lopez, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-5 Hidalgo Early College and 0-4 Grulla.

Francisco Perez was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 141 yards and one TD while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.

Looking ahead, Hidalgo Early College will head out on the road to challenge Grulla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lopez, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. The Lobos will be up against the Javelinas' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
