Baseball Recap: Wood River Continues Home Dominance on Saturday

Wood River barely beat Jerome the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines blew past the Tigers 14-4 on Saturday. Considering the Wolverines have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Wood River got a massive performance out of Alex Golub, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The Wolverines are undefeated when Golub posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Everett Carden, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Wood River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Wood River pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Jerome, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wood River will welcome Mountain Home at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Jerome, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Kimberly at 3:30 p.m.
