Preview: Aptos Mariners vs. Soquel Knights
After two games on the road, Aptos is heading back home. They will take on The Soquel Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Aptos had to settle for a 29-26 defeat against Hollister.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Matt Hood, who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Torres was another key contributor, rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Soquel entered their tilt with Palma with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Soquel walked away with a 14-7 victory over Palma two weeks ago. 14 seems to be a good number for Soquel as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Soquel relied on the efforts of Sam Whelan, who threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and Jordan Mccord, who picked up 119 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Aptos' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. As for Soquel, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Everything came up roses for Aptos against Soquel in their previous matchup back in October of 2015 as the squad secured a 62-0 victory. Will Aptos repeat their success, or does Soquel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
