Baseball Recap: Pecos Comes Up Short

Pecos had lost five straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 8-10 to make it six. They fell 16-12 to the Clayton Yellowjackets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-5 back in March.

Emiliano Torres stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last nine games he's played. Nikko Romero was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Clayton, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-10 record. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

On Clayton's side, they let Brody Ouellette and Max Leal run wild. Ouellette went 2-for-5 with six stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Leal got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Leal has posted since back in April of 2025. Adrian Jones also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pecos will take on Estancia at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Clayton, they will challenge Santa Rosa at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 13.4 runs per game this season.
