Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Melrose-Mindoro). Everything went their way against the Augusta Beavers on Tuesday as they made off with an 18-4 win. With that victory, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Jacob Thesing made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Thesing was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Melrose-Mindoro got a massive performance out of Brady Blaken, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brett Peterson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Melrose-Mindoro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
The win made it two in a row for Melrose-Mindoro and bumps their season record up to 3-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Augusta, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
