Las Vegas High School Football Rankings

Who's up and who's down

There wasn't a lot of overall movement in the power rankings this week, but with 16 teams changing position, that doesn't mean the week lacked for thrills. Among the action were the efforts of Bishop Gorman's junior Micah Bowens, an offensive menace who scored five total TDs.

Can't Touch This

Bishop Gorman has been an offensive powerhouse for three straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Sierra Vista, finishing up at 62 - 7. Bishop Gorman's margin of victory (55 points) marked the biggest win the team has had all season. Micah Bowens deserves a lot of credit in the win. He rushed for 138 yards and threw for three touchdowns, a performance good enough to make him one of the top players in the power rankings last week.

Movin on Up

Centennial was the better team in every quarter against Palo Verde last week and consequently the better team overall. Centennial kept its opponent Palo Verde off the scoreboard entirely, winning the match 34 - 0. Centennial found its leader in an underclassman: Colton Tenney threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players. Centennial's success was rewarded with a three-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.

Can't Stop Won't Stop

It was another outing, another win last week for the team with the longest stretch of success (eight consecutive games). Moapa Valley came out on top against Clark with a 14 - 0 win. Hopefully the victory is satisfying enough on its own since Moapa Valley actually slipped two places in the power rankings.

Next Week's Big Game

If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Foothill (5th in the power rankings) and Liberty (2nd). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Both the Liberty and Foothill defenses have allowed few points this year (averaging 13 ppg and 7.85 ppg, respectively), so the teams might find scoring more difficult than usual this week.
