Softball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wayne can now relate to. They fell just short of the Milford Tigers by a score of 10-9 on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Rylan Taylor was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alania Grundy and Ava Snedeger did some serious damage despite the final result: Grundy went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Snedeger got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Snedeger is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Oaklee Brian, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 22-11. As for Milford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.

Wayne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Milford, they will face off against Altamont at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Longhorns have averaged an impressive 13.5 runs per game this season.
